hello, i am in a group of compost makers from mid devon (Uffculme Compost Magic) who collect green garden waste from the local community and transform it into compost. there is very little to look at in our yard - a big space, rusting machinery, puddles, heaps of clippings/ bark shreddings/ small branches/ leaves/ weeds... there is no focal point, i feel. Often, local people bring in logs that are too big to compost, and we use a lot of time/energy/diesel mashing them all up. perhaps it would be a better idea to let them break down under the influence of a focused, concerted and assisted fungal attack? i have the feeling that we could encourage mushrooms to break down the wood at the same time as using the wood to grow (hopefully) interesting and possibly edible mushrooms. any ideas?
